Proverbs 31 is a truly good wife.
Her Scent is a sweet, fruity aroma including essences of Balsam, Lavender, Mandarin Orange, Roman Chamomile and Labdanum.
She was an excellent wife and mother. She made clothes, purchased goods from other countries, managed her household, purchased and sold land, grew food, was a weaver, designed her own furnishings, and even sold her products. She had many achievements, but the greatest was her desire to please her God and honor her husband. Even though her appearance is never mentioned she is greatly esteemed.
The Proverbs 31 woman has outstanding abilities. She may not be one woman at all — she may be a composite of the ideal woman. Our days are not long enough to do everything she did! But we can see her as an example to follow, inspiring US to be all we can be. We are all different, but we can learn from her resourcefulness, integrity, and productivity.
The book of Proverbs begins with the command to fear the Lord (Prov 1:7) and ends with the picture of a woman who fulfills this command. Her qualities are mentioned throughout the book: hard work, fear of God, respect for spouse, foresight, encouragement, care for others, concern for the poor, wisdom in handling money. These qualities, when coupled with fear of God, lead to, success, honor, worth and enjoyment. Proverbs is very practical for our day because it shows us how to become wise, make good decisions, and live according to God’s ways.
“Who can find a virtuous wife? For her worth is far above rubies.” (Proverbs 31:10)
